London Couple Number 1 in China

Press Information, June 9, 2011

A podcast recorded on a laptop in a spare bedroom in North London is currently topping the comedy charts in China. The Comedy 365 podcast – produced by former BBC web editor Brian Luff and his partner Georgina Sowerby – is a mixture of chat, puppetry and flash animation, and is proving hugely popular with fans in the People’s Republic of China – a country with over 1.3 billion people.

“We’ve had hundreds of thousands of downloads in China in the past couple of months,” says Luff, 49. “Now we’re hoping to find a sponsor in China, or maybe go and meet some of our listeners over there.”

Georgina Sowerby, 39, who is a writer, performer and volunteers in her local charity shop in Crouch End, says “Our popularity in China has come as a complete surprise to us. I can only imagine it’s something to do with our rather naughty British sense of humour.”

Whatever the reason, Comedy 365 is an unexpectedly successful British export in Beijing, and should inspire other UK entrepreneurs with an eye on China.
